For me, photography is about justice and about making visible people who are so often overlooked. Photography is about community and place.
I seek out workers: the people who clean and repair our streets and our buildings, deliver supplies, mail and packages, and provide all the other the services on which we depend. So often, they are overlooked, bypassed, and not seen. I take these photographs to make them and their work visible.
I seek out organizers, activists, and those who resist in these difficult times: the people who are fighting against injustice and are bringing their passion and energy to demand and build a better, more just society.
I seek out the people who, in going about their everyday lives, create our streets and communities: in Albany Park, Chicago and cities like Chicago. The act of photography is a way I stay engaged and present, witness, and document all that is happening as I walk to the train, go to work, take action, and do all of the other things that we all do every day.
