Privilege

August 27, 2018 by dspolo

I was taking photos of the taking down of a  film set in Lincoln Square when I heard and the saw this electric car and its young driver going up the street.   My first reaction was how cute.  My second reaction was his sense of privilege and entitlement as he drove up the crowded sidewalk.  That made me think of a second photo that I took two days ago where a younger boy was being pushed in a stroller with a fan keeping him cool – and I found the fan to be a bit much

Do these boys inherit that sense of privilege that they then carry with them as a sense of entitlement?  Do these young boys become the man in this photo?

Things were simpler when everything didn’t seem to be political – but they have always been political.  All that is different is my awareness and my sense that the stakes are so high now.
