I moved to Chicago in 1984 and was appalled then that Illinois was a State that had never passed the Equal Rights Amendment. As time went by, the ERA was rarely in the news. But in these days of increased misogyny and #MeToo – the Illinois General Assembly is again debating whether to approve the ERA. Here we are after all these years, 34 years, having the same debate about something as basic as: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”
